Overview

Dimensions add reporting axes such as location, project or business unit to accounting lines. Their validity may depend on an entity and account combination.

Key concepts

Model dimension definitions separately from selected values. Specify required combinations and allowed null values.

Implementation considerations

Do not accept arbitrary tags as valid ledger dimensions. A future mapping must validate target-system constraints.

Illustrative data model

This local fixture shows a possible representation for the concepts above. It is not an endpoint response, production configuration or a claim that the described capability is implemented.

Design review checklist

  • Document which organization owns the accounting dimensions representation and which actor may view or change it.
  • Test the boundaries of dimension id, dimension value id, account id, subsidiary id using synthetic values, including missing or inconsistent references.
  • Before future implementation, obtain an approved contract and review failure behavior. This documentation does not authorize production activation.
