Overview

Rate limiting would protect shared capacity by bounding a client request rate. A proposed 429 response indicates that a request budget was exceeded, not that the underlying expense data is invalid.

Key concepts

Treat Retry-After as an instruction if a future contract provides it. Combine bounded exponential backoff with jitter and avoid retrying all queued workers at the same instant.

Implementation considerations

No numerical rate budget is promised. Queue growth, maximum retry time and per-organization fairness should be considered before a future client is deployed.

Proposed API behavior

GET /v1/expenses is an illustrative design for this topic. Path and field names may change before implementation. Access would require an authorized organization context and operation-specific permission; no public API or authorization grant is available here.

Illustrative error case

Review this failure case in context: No numerical rate budget is promised. Queue growth, maximum retry time and per-organization fairness should be considered before a future client is deployed.
