User Permissions — Proposed Guide

Overview
Permissions describe specific actions on resources, such as viewing an expense or approving a report. Roles may aggregate permissions, but grants still need contextual evaluation.
Key concepts
Combine action, resource and organizational context. Record ownership and approval conflicts can restrict an otherwise valid role.
Implementation considerations
A client-visible permission summary helps explain controls but cannot replace server-side checks. No permission engine is activated by this reference.
Illustrative data model
This local fixture shows a possible representation for the concepts above. It is not an endpoint response, production configuration or a claim that the described capability is implemented.

}Design review checklist
- Document which organization owns the user permissions representation and which actor may view or change it.
- Test the boundaries of user id, resource type, scope using synthetic values, including missing or inconsistent references.
- Before future implementation, obtain an approved contract and review failure behavior. This documentation does not authorize production activation.
Proposed data types
| Name | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| user_id | string | Stable fictional user reference; not a secret and not evidence that a resource exists. |
| resource_type | string | Type namespace for interpreting a resource identifier and its authorized actions. |
| scope | array<string> | Illustrative minimum-access grant names, not issued or finalized production scopes. |
