Overview

OpenID Connect adds an identity layer to OAuth 2.0. An ID token describes authentication of a user; it is not automatically an access token for expense or accounting resources.

Key concepts

Validate issuer, audience and nonce against the initiating flow. Keep identity claims separate from an application permission grant.

Implementation considerations

Discovery URLs and signing-key retrieval are not configured. A future implementation must verify the provider contract rather than trust arbitrary token claims.

Illustrative data model

This local fixture shows a possible representation for the concepts above. It is not an endpoint response, production configuration or a claim that the described capability is implemented.

  "audience": "example-api-audience",

Design review checklist

  • Document which organization owns the openid connect representation and which actor may view or change it.
  • Test the boundaries of issuer, audience, subject, nonce using synthetic values, including missing or inconsistent references.
  • Before future implementation, obtain an approved contract and review failure behavior. This documentation does not authorize production activation.
